South-facing and tree-shaded walls dry slowly, hold moisture and grow mould and lichen, and that is usually where an old paint job fails first. We wash down, treat the growth and use the right primers and films so it does not bleed straight back through the new coat. Leaf litter and sap on roofs, gutters and eaves get cleared as part of the prep, not painted over.
