If you own a home on the North Shore, you already know it asks more of a painter than a project home in a new estate. You might have a Federation house in Killara, a Californian bungalow in Pymble, a deep-eaved interwar home in Roseville, a grand period home in Mosman, or a unit in Neutral Bay surrounded by gum trees. Heritage and Federation timber detail
The North Shore, and the Ku-ring-gai area in particular, holds some of Sydney’s finest Federation and bungalow housing stock. That means a lot of exterior timber: deep eaves and exposed rafter tails, decorative bargeboards and fretwork, timber-framed leadlight windows, verandah posts and weatherboard. This is hand-prepared and brush-finished, not rushed with a spray gun. Old timber also needs the right primer and a proper read of what is already on it before a topcoat goes near it. Getting the cutting-in crisp on hundred-year-old fretwork is the difference between a paint job and a restoration.
Shaded, leafy walls and mould
The leafy North Shore is beautiful and it is hard on paint. Heavy tree canopy keeps south and east elevations damp and out of the sun for most of the day, and damp shaded render and timber grow mould and mildew. Painting straight over it just seals the problem in. We treat and kill the mould first, address the moisture source where we can, and use the right exterior system for shaded, slow-drying walls so the finish lasts rather than flaking back within a season.
Steep, treed blocks and proper access
Many North Shore blocks are steep, split-level and tightly treed. Reaching a second-storey gable over a sloping bush garden safely is a real part of the job, not an afterthought. We plan access and scaffolding properly so the high and awkward work gets the same finish as everything at eye level, and so your garden and your neighbours are respected while we are there.

Large parts of the Upper North Shore sit within heritage conservation areas, where exterior colour and finish matter beyond personal taste.
