Painting in Engadine
A suburb between two national parks.
Engadine isn’t a typical Sydney suburb to paint, and the reason is its setting. It sits 33 kilometres south of the Sydney CBD in the Sutherland Shire, on elevated ground roughly 196 metres up, bordered by the Royal National Park to the east and Heathcote National Park to the west. Very few Sydney suburbs are wrapped in bushland on two sides like this, and it changes what a paint job has to stand up to.
The big factor is exterior exposure. Homes on Engadine’s bushland fringe and higher streets cop strong sun and open weather, which is hard on exterior coatings. Render chalks, timber and fibro fade, and north and west-facing walls take a beating over the years. We specify durable Dulux exterior systems and put the work into prep, because on an exposed Engadine home the difference between a quick once-over and a properly prepped repaint shows up within a couple of summers.
The second factor is the age of the housing. Engadine swung from rural to residential in the 1950s and built out heavily from the 1960s through the 1990s. A lot of those brick-and-tile, render and fibro family homes are now two or three repaints into their life, and many are overdue. That’s the bulk of what we do here: bringing established homes back, inside and out, with finishes chosen to last.
Engadine is also genuine bush-fire country, with a long local memory of fires coming out of the surrounding parks. If your home sits in a bush-fire-prone area, it’s worth factoring the right exterior materials and finishes into any repaint, and we’re happy to talk that through on the quote.
