Reviews
Sydney schools that trusted Upscale with their classrooms.
Engaging a painter for a school means letting a contractor onto a site you’re responsible for, around students, working to a calendar that can’t move, and under child-protection rules you have to answer for. Here’s what that’s been like for the Sydney businesses and organisations who’ve trusted Upscale Painting & Decorating with their premises.

The problem
Repainting a school is not like repainting an office.

A school is a working site full of children, with a calendar that doesn’t move and a budget that has to be accounted for. The painter you choose has to understand all three.
You’re probably weighing up some of this:
- The work has to fit the calendar. Classroom blocks need to be done in the two-week breaks. Big repaints belong in the summer holidays. Anything mid-term has to happen after the last bell, and be finished before the first one.
- Everyone on site has to be cleared. Under NSW child-protection law, every worker on school grounds needs a valid Working With Children Check. A contractor who can’t produce them on day one is a problem you don’t have time for.
- The paint can’t be a health issue. Strong solvent odour in a classroom means students can’t come back. The finish also has to survive corridors, bag racks, hand-height scuffing and a decade of use.
- The price has to hold. Whether the job is funded by the department, the diocese, the P&C or a capital-works budget, a quote that drifts upward mid-job is a problem someone has to explain.
Upscale Painting & Decorating is set up around exactly these constraints, not a residential painter taking on a school as a side job. That is what the rest of this page is about.
The Upscale Promise
Five things in writing with every school paint job.
Engaging a painting contractor for a school shouldn’t be a gamble with public money, P&C funds or a capital-works budget. At Upscale Painting & Decorating, every school job comes with the same five-part promise, and every one of them is documented before we lift a brush.

The process
How we paint your school from first visit to handover.
A strata repaint runs smoothly when everyone knows what happens next. Here’s exactly how an Upscale Painting & Decorating strata job works.
A schedule locked to your calendar
We map the work to your term breaks, holidays and after-hours windows before anything starts, and confirm WWCC numbers, the site-specific SWMS and induction requirements with your business manager.
Protection, preparation and painting
Furniture, floors, IT and fixtures are protected to our documented standard. Surfaces are properly prepared, then painted in low-VOC Dulux systems by a WWCC-checked team, clean, contained and on schedule.

Local Specialists
Painting schools across Sydney.
Sydney’s schools are not a single building type, and they don’t all paint the same way. After repainting education facilities across the metropolitan area since 2016, Upscale Painting & Decorating has learned the estate.
Sydney’s school buildings span a century. A large share of the city’s public schools occupy Federation- and Victorian-era buildings, decorative face brick, rendered facades, high ceilings, timber detailing, that need sympathetic preparation and the right finishes, not a quick roll-over. The bulk of suburban schools are post-war brick and weatherboard blocks from the 1950s to 70s, the era when lead-based paint was still standard, which is why testing older coating layers matters. And newer Catholic and independent campuses bring contemporary substrates, rendered and clad facades, and large open buildings. Most Sydney schools also run demountable classrooms, which are a different substrate again and an easy win to fold into a holiday-period program.
The calendar is the same across the city. Whether a school is in the Eastern Suburbs, on the North Shore, in the Inner West, the Sutherland Shire or the CBD fringe, the NSW school calendar is the constraint every job is built around, four terms, the breaks between them, and the long summer window for the bigger work.
Three sectors, three ways of working. Upscale paints for NSW Department of Education public schools, Catholic systemic schools, and independent schools, and each has its own procurement, approvals and decision-makers. We’re used to quoting in a form that a business manager can take to the department, a diocese, a board or a P&C.
Upscale Painting & Decorating services schools across the Sydney metropolitan area, the Eastern Suburbs, the Lower North Shore and North Shore, the Inner West, the CBD and the Sutherland Shire.
FAQ
School painting questions, answered.
The most common questions Principals, teachers, and campus managers want answered before hiring a painter.
Do your painters have Working With Children Checks?
Yes. Every Upscale Painting & Decorating painter who works on a school site holds a valid NSW Working With Children Check, as required by child-protection law. We provide the check numbers to your school for verification before the job begins.
Can you paint our school without disrupting classes?
Yes. Most school painting is scheduled into the term breaks and the summer holidays, when students aren’t on site. When work has to happen mid-term, Upscale works after-hours and weekends and stages the job so teaching spaces stay usable. The schedule is agreed with your business manager before we start.
Are the paints you use safe for students and classrooms?
Yes. Upscale specifies low-odour, low-VOC paint systems for occupied learning environments, fast-curing finishes chosen so classrooms can be handed back ready for students rather than aired out for days. The finishes are durable, washable Dulux systems built to take years of school traffic.
Do you work with public, Catholic and independent schools?
Yes. Upscale Painting & Decorating paints for NSW Department of Education public schools, Catholic systemic schools and independent schools across Sydney, and quotes in a form that a business manager can take to the department, a diocese, a board or a P&C.
What about lead paint in our older school buildings?
Many Sydney school buildings built before the 1970s carry lead-based paint in their older coating layers. Where lead paint is a possibility, Upscale can coordinate independent lead testing for your school and plan the work around the results, so older buildings are repainted safely and to current standards.
